This is designed to cool and heat a single area. There are different size systems for different size areas. A representative from Mercury will measure and perform a heat load (heating analysis) on any room to determine the correct sizing.
The indoor unit is typically installed on an external wall with the outdoor unit located as close as possible to the indoor. When installed the system is wired back to the power board on its own circuit.
A split system can be either a cooling only model or heating and cooling combined (reverse cycle). The majority of people choose a reverse cycle system because the cost is only around $100 more than cooling only.
