ADD ON COOLING SYSTEMS

REFRIGERATED ADD ON COOLING SYSTEMS
This is a system that is added on to a ducted heating system (in ceiling or under floor) that provides both air conditioning and gas heating through the same ducts and outlets. The Air Conditioning is typically a zoned system - to cool either living areas (day) or bedrooms (night). The heating can operate either half the house or the whole house at once.

REFRIGERATED SPLIT SYSTEMS

BENEFITS OF SPLIT SYSTEMS
Very quiet operation. Can reduce the temperature in the home to a significantly lower temperature than Evaporative Cooling. When sized properly a Refrigerated Air Conditioner will operate effectively regardless of the outside conditions - i.e. extremely hot or humid days.
NEGATIVES OF SPLIT SYSTEMS
Refrigerated Split Systems are more expensive to operate than Evaporative Cooling Systems. They are often only able operate in part of a house - not the entire house.

ADD ON COOLING SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS
The ducting size for Add On Cooling is larger than for ducted heating, so often when installing add-on air conditioning to an existing Gas Heating system, all the existing ducting must be removed and upgraded to a larger size. 6"/150mm outlets are used for Heating and 8"/200mm for Air Conditioning. 1kW will cool approx 1 square of house. As a zoned system a 24 square house will require approximately 12kW of power but will only be able to cool half of the house at a time.

SMALL HOME/UNIT	10-14 squares: 5-7kW
MEDIUM HOME	15-24 squares: 7-12kW
LARGE HOME	25-35+ squares: 13-18kW
PRICES
Prices range from $6,500 to $9,900+ depending on the size of the unit and existing ducting/heater capacity (including installation and GST).
OPERATING COSTS
It is very difficult to estimate the operating costs as a number of factors influence the exact figure, such as: size of the unit, operating temperature outside, set temperature inside and style of home (insulation, window sizes, coverings and shading).
